brand personality
a brands personality is an extremely important factor to the relationship they have with their consumers. Just like a with a person, if your personalities dont attract with a certain brand you will most likely not want to purchase their product or service. different types of brands all have different personalities to suite their target audience take beer brands for example, their personality is always the fun party type.

Brand characters
Brand characters always seem to add that little something extra to a brand, a character that you can connect with. there have been many brand character throughout the years, many of which have managed to stick around. Tony the tiger, toucan sam, snap, crackle and pop, captain crunch, lucky, are all memorable brand characters from my child hood, i used to share breakfast with them every morning. but brand characters do go further than just cereal boxes, take the Michelin Man for example has been around for ages as the giant friendly marshmallow looking tire mascot. The m&m's have also been a popular trademark for there brand. Gieko has there gecko, and Duracell has their bunny. all of these brand characters are lovable and memorable and really help us connect with the brand.

Brand loyalty
with all the brands in the market place now is brand loyalty still as strong as it used to be?... maybe its more important? all I know is that from personal experience with so many options out there I find it hard to stay loyal to one brand. I'm sure there are still a ton of brand loyals out there but most of them are more than likely older than I and have been using that brand for quite some time. It seems to be a trend among the younger generation to look more for the deals than paying more for a specific brand at least for smaller ticketed items like groceries, cosmetics and personal hygiene products.
I do find it makes sense to be brand loyal to items that cost more such as phones, computers and cars. If you are paying that much for something you want to be able to trust the brand.

The VANS Brand Story
While at a Vans party in Whistler BC this past April I was able to hear the Vans brand story from the mouth of the companies owner Steve Van Doren. It was an incredible story about how his father, one man, decide to do something different with shoes which then quickly became an icon. Vans are one of the most well known shoe companies in the world and they appeal to all different lifestyles. After reading this book my opinion of vans only got better...they are still my favorite shoe company, I now have much more respect for them.
